How to Get Started

Prior to first visits, I offer a complimentary introductory call where we’ll discuss your current concerns related to nutrition, food, eating, health, body image (or all of the above) and what help you are looking for. I’ll also explain my services, fees, processes, and what it would look like to work together.

Nutrition counseling may be fully covered by your health insurance. Instant scheduling takes place through my secure client platform, Practice Better.

If you have any questions or encounter any issues during this process, contact me or call Nutrition By Carrie at 541-877-0799.

Do you take my insurance?2026-06-01T09:02:07-07:00

It’s helpful if you call your insurance carrier to check on benefits prior to your free introductory call. Please see our insurance guide for helpful tips and assistance.

What can I expect during my first visit?2026-06-01T09:02:25-07:00

I will ask you a lot of questions about your food, eating and exercise habits/behaviors and beliefs (past and present), how you cope with stress, your overall health, and your current concerns. Then, we’ll develop an initial plan together.

How long is the first session?2026-06-01T09:02:42-07:00

The first nutrition counseling session is typically about 1 hour and 15 minutes (75 minutes) but may range from 60 to 90 minutes depending on your unique situation.

What about follow-up appointments?2026-06-01T09:03:16-07:00

Subsequent sessions are usually 30 to 60 minutes, depending on your needs and what we’re working on. Most of my new clients start out with scheduling sessions every 1 to 2 weeks, and we will decide your initial schedule based on the amount the support you need and the challenges you’re facing.

During each session, we’ll discuss what went well and what felt challenging — along with anything else that you identify as important to talk about — then set new mini goals and intentions to help you continue making progress toward positive change.

What if I have questions between appointments?2026-06-01T09:03:33-07:00

You’ll have access to my HIPAA-compliant portal. The portal includes a chat function where you can send messages to me securely. You can also email me if that’s easier, although email isn’t HIPAA-compliant.
