What to Expect

What is the discovery call?
Before your first visit, we will have an introductory call where I’ll ask for some details about your situation and what help you are looking for, then I’ll explain our services, fees, and processes. If you are ready to start working together, we’ll schedule your first visit.

What can I expect during my first visit?
I will ask a series of questions about your health, nutrition and lifestyle history, as well as your current concerns, then we’ll develop an initial plan together.

What if I live outside of Oregon or Washington?
Nutrition By Carrie provides virtual, video-based care (telehealth) via the secure platform Practice Better and is able to serve clients in many states outside of Oregon and Washington virtually. Review our service areas to see if we offer nutrition counseling and therapy in your state.

Do you take my insurance?
I ask that you call your insurance carrier to check on benefits prior to your free introductory call. Please see our insurance guide for helpful tips and assistance.

How long is the first visit?
The first visit is typically about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

What about follow-up appointments?
Subsequent visits are usually 45 to 60 minutes. Most of my new clients start out with scheduling sessions every two weeks, but we can adjust this schedule as needed to give you the support you need and help you work towards your goals. During each session, we’ll discuss what went well and what felt challenging — along with anything else that you identify as important to talk about — then set new mini goals and intentions to help you make progress towards your larger goals.

What if I have questions between appointments?
You’ll have access to my HIPAA-compliant portal. The portal includes a chat function where you can send messages to me securely.

Office Policies

  • Self-payments due by time of service
  • 24-hour notice required for cancellations/reschedules
  • $75 late fee for late cancellations and no-shows (for insurance clients), or forfeiture of one session after two late cancellations or no-shows (self-pay clients)
  • No Refunds
  • Notice of HIPAA Privacy Practices
