Life is about balance. One way I strive for balance in my life, nutritionally, is to allow for planned indulgences, but then plan a particularly healthy meal to balance it out.
This was lunch: A hamburger, fries and a chocolate shake from In-N-Out Burger. (Note: I got a single hamburger, and not the double-double!)
This was dinner: A green salad with loads of veggies, some chicken breast, sunflower seeds, dried cranberries, a touch of blue cheese and light oil and vinegar. From Whole Foods, naturally.
I haven’t been to an In-N-Out Burger for about three years (in Las Vegas). So I was really looking forward to this, I really enjoyed eating it, and I happily picked back up with my healthy eating habits. I never treat eating a less-than-healthy meal as a license to throw nutritional caution to the wind for the rest of the day. I just don’t get the idea that you’ve “ruined” a day nutritionally because you eat something “bad.” Good nutrition isn’t just one meal or one day, it’s the net sum of everything you eat. It’s not about a “perfect eating” day, week, month, or year. It’s about making the healthier choice most of the time.
