I don’t keep up with TED talks as much as I would like, so I was happy to hear about Annie Murphy Paul’s talk on “What we learn before we’re born.” It’s a good talk, but I was particularly interested in her discussion during the last half (starts around 9:50) of:
- The Dutch Famine of 1944-45 (which I mentioned in my post last Thursday)
- The effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) on the children who were in utero while their mothers witnessed the horrific events of the 9-11 terrorist attacks
She didn’t mention anything that I didn’t already know, but then I’ve read a fair amount on the subject. I’m sharing her talk primarily because it gives a nice overview for people who aren’t overly familiar with the topic. I haven’t read Paul’s book Origins, but I put it on my wish list (aka my “I wish I had time to read” list!).
