Anyone who sets foot in my house (or peers through my windows) knows pretty quickly that I love books. Books are everywhere…lots and lots of books. For the past few years, I’ve been doing a book club with my patients, and toying with the idea of doing an online book club. Well, 2018 is the year for less toying, and more doing.
About the picks
To mix things up, we’ll be alternating between cookbooks and “regular” books. I chose a magazine (and website) for January, since the month is already underway, and I know some people might want to get their books, especially cookbooks from the library (I’m a big fan of getting cookbooks from the library so I can try before I buy, since I already have a LOT of cookbooks).
The regular books cover topics that are important if you want to achieve whole-person health (mind, body and soul): self-compassion, self-acceptance, self-care, body positivity and respect, and mindfulness. The cookbooks selections will help you play with more plant foods in the kitchen, and explore a Mediterranean style of eating. Because so many of us are pressed for time, I also included a make-ahead cookbook and a slow cooker book.
How it works
We’ll be discussing the books on the new Nutrition By Carrie Book Club Facebook group (if you aren’t on Facebook, I do apologize). Just link to the group page and request to join. At the beginning of each month, I’ll start a discussion thread for that month’s book, and all comments will stay in that thread. For the cookbook months, tell us what you made, what you thought of the recipe, anything you changed or thinks could be changes, and photos (if you are so inclined). And…here are the picks!
