I’m a big believer in the power of accountability, whether it be accountability to yourself, or to others. If you’ve read Gretchen Rubin’s Better Than Before, depending on which of her Four Tendencies you most resemble (Upholder, Obliger, Questioner or Rebel), you either do better when meeting inner expectations or outer expectations (except Rebels, who, well, rebel against any expectations).
Most people are Obligers, and even though I have traces of the other tendencies, so am I. That means I do better when meeting outer expectations. That’s why when I decided that I was going to write and self-publish a book this year, I announced that fact while speaking to a large class of University of Washington nutrition students back in February. Well, with all the other demands of life and work, the year is nearly half over and I haven’t made more than preliminary progress on the book front, so I’m upping the accountability factor by announcing my intentions to you, right here, right now.
I’ve also started a Facebook page for my fledgling book project, and will be posting about my progress there.
Since I’ve yet to figure out a way to increase the number of hours in a day, and skimping on sleep or exercise is not an option, I’ve decided to not take any new nutrition coaching clients (via Nutrition By Carrie…this has nothing to do with my work at Menu for Change).
I guess it’s time for me to get cracking!
