“Isn’t there supposed to be a month between January and March?” you ask. Why yes, there is, and was, but as far as my 2015 Cookbook Challenge is concerned, February was a lost month. It was consumed with applying for, interviewing for, landing and training for my new job. A most happy turn of events, but one that to be shoehorned in amongst my pre-existing commitments.
I still prepared meals at home, but it was more along the lines of tossing salads, roasting vegetables and baking or grilling some sort of protein (beef, fish, chicken). The only cooking from recipes I did was when I was developing the slow-cooker recipes for my recent Seattle Times column.*
But now it is March, and the dust of my latest life transition is settling. I am happy to resume my cookbooks challenge!

March’s Cookbook Challenge picks are:

I have a sneaking suspicion that one of these three books is going to get voted off the island my bookshelves (I won’t say which one), but since I’ve purged a lot of non-cookbooks since reading Marie Kondo’s The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing, if I find that a cookbook just doesn’t “spark joy,” then I should let it go.
* Funny story…I was with a patient on Monday and I was explaining about advanced glycation end products. I called up the A.G.E. Foundation website, and was pleasantly surprised to see that they had linked to my slow-cooker column. I was like, “Huh? Oh! Hey, will you look at that!”)
